The Perfect Worship Service
What does MY worship service look like in a perfect world?
• • •
Here’s a shot, but . . .
don’t be afraid to respond with YOUR opinion/experience.
-It is planned from the perspective of the People, not the Platform.
-It is theologically laid out, and follows the pattern of Revelation before Response.
-It is primarily Corporate.
-It is active, not passive.
-It includes a huge variety of corporate response, not just standing, singing, listening and giving.
-It does things that I cannot do in solitude.
-It is both verbal and symbolic.
-It contains both Ancient and Contemporary pieces.
-It contains both confession and celebration, and is both quiet and raucous.
-It reeks of Scripture throughout the entire service, but is not centered around a sermon.
-It feels like an offering, a sacrifice, and an act of service.
-It addresses, confronts and engages both my mind and my heart.
-It both remembers and anticipates.
-It is focused on God’s story, and invites me to insert my story into that story.
Here is my suggested Service Order:
1. Invited to worship by God himself, and respond with praise
2. Confess our sins and are interrupted by the assurance of God’s gracious forgiveness
3. Hear from God (thru Scripture) in many ways
4. Respond to God in many ways (Eucharist?)
5. Receive a blessing from God
What about you?
-How would you change things?
-Do you have a preferred order of service?
-Do you do Communion (Eucharist) every week?
